Leadership and Collaboration

Tufts University Center for Cellular Agriculture (TUCCA) brings together prior programs with strong foundations that contribute to this rapidly evolving field, amplifying a culture of collaboration among schools and programs. Examples include:
- Longstanding expertise in tissue engineering (the foundation for cellular agriculture), based on a nearly 20 year NIH supported Resource Center (P41) within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the School of Engineering
- Expertise in nutrition innovation, consumer acceptance, and life cycle assessments at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy
- Livestock and related research expertise at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine
- Courses in cellular agriculture that provided in-person and online for broader audience accessibility
- The first graduate certificate in cellular agriculture
- Early student support from nonprofit foundations such as New Harvest and The Good Food Institute
- Significant patent portfolio, licensing of technology, and related academic-industry initiatives
