Culture of Collaboration
The creation of Tufts University Center for Cellular Agriculture (TUCCA) was made possible by decades of prior programs at Tufts that developed relevant expertise and programmatic capacity for this emerging field. The center testifies to a culture of collaboration across five schools and eleven departments.
Examples include:
- Longstanding expertise in tissue engineering (the foundation for cellular agriculture), based on a nearly 20 year NIH supported Resource Center (P41) within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the School of Engineering
- Expertise in nutrition innovation, consumer acceptance, and life cycle assessments at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy
- Livestock and related research expertise at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine
